PRESS ON

As I was watching an episode of Master Chef this week, I felt bad for one of the contestants named Tyler, yet he provided two great life lessons that we can benefit from.

The home cooks were making a dessert which involved making a panna cotta.  The contestants each made a few of the panna cotta and then put them in a big refrigerator to cool.

When it was time to take their panna cotta’s out of the refrigerator, Tyler inadvertently took one wrong container of panna cotta from the refrigerator, which was not the one he put in there.  So, when Tyler presented his dish to the three judges, it technically was not his own dish.  This incident had never happened before on the show and the judges felt according to the shows rules, he should be sent home. The rules state that you can only submit your own creation and technically it wasn’t.

Though it was very difficult for Tyler, I was impressed that he remained respectful to the judges with their decision, and he publicly apologized to the person whose item he took. I thought the way he was respectful and also apologizing were great lessons for us to remember and put into practice.

Tyler said he would keep cooking and pursuing his dream.

The judges felt very bad that they had to send Tyler home, and they were very encouraging to have him press on in the cooking field.

I think the example Tyler set is a good life lesson for us all. If you make a mistake, set it right, pick yourself back up, and keep reaching for your dream.  Do not give up even if you have a set back or two.

“Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” –Philippians 3:13-14

  1. This is so true. There is character shown in this example and that is far more valuable than anything.else. When we recognize God’s call on our life all fame and fortune seems less important. We all learn from our mistakes and God can certainly use even our worst of blunders to show His power and strength. In our weakness God’s strength is best shown.

  2. Hi Christine. I agree, great lessons for us. Sometimes, what looks like a setback, is really a setup for a come -back. Thanks for the reminder. Very encouraging.

  3. I also watched this show and remember this episode. I totally agree with you regarding Tyler’s response. I don’t know many people who would have taken it in the manner in which he did.

Indeed, if we make a mistake, we can’t keep dwelling on it and allow it to keep us from moving forward. We have to learn from our mistakes and keep on keeping on.
