THE PEARL

THE WORLD WAS MY OYSTER

BUT WHERE WAS THE PEARL?

Hearing these words, that echoed most for me, from the musical Annie, for the second time in three months, inspired me to share them with you this week.

Sometimes we don’t always do what we think we’re suppose to do right away, right?

I am sure somewhere along the way I had seen this musical but it has been many years.  Seeing it performed in a quaint theater in Florida back in December, it seemed like I wanted to share something about it but it never came to fruition.

What are the “chances” that three months later our semi-local Christian Radio Station’s youth theater workshop, was performing Annie?  I couldn’t pass up a chance to take a friend and attend another wonderful dinner/theater production where the food is always top rate.

If you are one of my faithful weekly readers, you may recall I recently attended a Christmas production at the same place back in December.  This dinner menu did not disappoint either….this time a fruit medley, salad greens, a cold pea and cheese salad, honey digon pork or ranch chicken, roasted potatoes, and a vegetable medley.  Dessert choices were made from scratch carrot cake, apple crumb cheesecake (the one I choose!), black forest cake and chocolate peanut butter cake.

God is always at work blessing us and this time it was with the people at our table.  How could the Lord place us with another couple from my city, which is 1 1/2 hrs away from the radio station headquarters where Annie was held?  They were a delightful couple who made us laugh many times.  The other two gals that rounded out our table reside in a nearby city only 15 minutes away.  Out of the hundreds of people there, it was just amazing to see that God worked it out so we sat next to people that live so close to us.  When you order tickets, you pick which table you want so it was all just a God moment…nothing that us humans planned.  God is pretty awesome!!

Seeing Annie the second time brought the inspiration back again and this time I’m acting on it to share.  😃  At the end of this production, there was a short talk about Jesus that added a nice touch to this Annie production that connected it more with our Christian faith.

I am thinking most of you know the story of little orphan Annie, who was left at an orphange in NYC when she was little, and eventually was adopted by a billionaire, Mr. Warbucks.

THE WORLD WAS MY OYSTER

BUT WHERE WAS THE PEARL

are words from the song, Something was Missing, that was sung by Mr. Warbucks.  Here are the full lyrics:

Something Was Missing

I’ve made me a fortune
(That fortune made ten)
Been headlined
And profiled
Again and again
But something was missing
(I never quite knew)
That something was someone —
But who?

My speeches are greeted
With thunderous acclaim
At two universities
Bearing my name
Yes, something was missing
Each time I got through
That something was someone —
But who?

Who could that someone be?
How could she make it known?
Who would need me for me?
Need me for me alone?

The world was my oyster —

But where was the pearl?

Who dreamed I could find it
Yes something was missing —
But dreams can come true
That something
Is no one
But you

Who would need me for me?

Need me for me alone?

The world was my oyster–

But where was the pearl?

Who’d dream I would find it
In one little girl ?
Yes, something was missing
But dreams do come true

That something is no one…..but you.

Though we know that Mr. Warbucks was referring to Annie as the “pearl” in this song, I believe this song is a very fitting parallel in our lives with our relationship with the Lord with….

Jesus being the pearl in our lives!

Consider those lyrics again in that context…

Even with all the money in the world….

Even with being the most famous, sought after person in this world….

At first we don’t even know, but after while we realize

SOMETHING IS MISSING…..SOMEONE IS MISSING.

Even if we give the most eloquent speeches….

Even if we have universities named after us….

SOMETHING IS MISSING…SOMEONE IS MISSING.

There is that someone who wants us…

There is that someone who needs us to live for Him…

There is that someone who needs us just like we are….

There is that someone who loves imperfect us….

THE WORLD WAS MY OYSTER

BUT WHERE WAS THE PEARL

Who dreamed we could be free….

And find that something that was missing…

Yes, there is nothing like you…

THE WORLD WAS MY OYSTER

BUT WHERE WAS THE PEARL

Yes,

SOMETHING WAS MISSING…SOMEONE WAS MISSING…

This world that we live in can symbolize our OYSTER

But have you found the PEARL…..

that pearl that is JESUS?

Isn’t it kind of cool to think about a natural pearl that one finds?  Aren’t they one of the purest, most beautiful gemstones formed by God’s handiwork?

A pearl is perfect just as it is. Human hands don’t have to change it to make it better in appearance or more radiant.  I think that is what makes the pearl so valuable and precious just as it is!

Is Jesus all of that in your life?

Your pearl, Jesus, is the most valuable gemstone in your life!

A treasure far beyond any other in this world.  Nothing compares!

Let Him radiate through you!

“Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls. When he found one of great value, he went away and sold everything he had and bought it.”  –Matthew 13:45-46 (NIV)
