Who is like You among the gods, O LORD? Who is like You, majestic in holiness, awesome in praises, working wonders? –Exodus 15:11 (NASB)
I am in awe of the Lord and His amazing creation! One does not have to look far to see Him at work creating such a wonderful world which surrounds us, as well as all the inhabitants including you and me!
All of nature is pretty awe inspiring to me~one of the first places I connected with God in a powerful way!
Recently, I heard about and saw a video of a plant that made me stop and really think….what an awesome God we have who could form such amazing creations!
Check out this short video of the mimosa pudica plant, also known as the “shy” or “sensitive” plant!
A brother-in-law of mine was visiting his exchange student and her family in Thailand where this amazing plant was growing in their garden. How cool is it to observe that a plant, this mimosa pudica plant, actually responds to the sense of touch?!
A quick google search from Encyclopedia Britannica says the following:
“The mimosa pudica plant, also nicknamed the humble plant, responds to touch and other stimulation by rapidly closing its leaves and drooping. The plant’s unusually quick response to touch is due to rapid water release from specialized cells located at the bases of leaflet and leaf stalks. The leaves reopen in several minutes, and it is thought that this adaptation is a defense against browsing herbivores who may be startled by the movement. In addition to its response to physical stimuli, the leaves also droop in response to darkness and reopen with daylight, a phenomenon known as nyctinastic movement.”
Learning about the special attributes of the mimosa pudica makes me in awe of God’s creation!
Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy. –Psalm 96:11-12 (NIV)

Consider the Vitelline Masked Weaver.

What I am in awe about this bird is the nest that the male bird makes. A friend of mine photographed this bird and his nest while she was photographing wildlife in Tanzania. Here is some information she shared about the male Vitelline Masked Weaver:
One of the most fascinating birds in Tanzania is the gorgeous, bright yellow, Vitelline Masked Weaver. True, hard working artisans, the males are responsible for building the nests, sometimes up to 25 each season, which takes about 9 – 14 hours each to complete. Once completed they will display to the females hoping to attract one to their humble abode. If a picky female approves she will line the interior with soft grass and feathers, and lay 2 – 5 eggs which only she incubates.
My friend watched this male building a nest in April and was amazed how he used his beak and feet to weave the grasses together. A skilled nest builder, he worked tirelessly building the perfect love nest.
Learning how this bird painstakingly takes so much time to build such a beautiful nest makes me in awe of God’s creation of the Vitelline Masked Weaver!
“But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind. –Job 12:7-10 (NIV)

How amazing is the Pelican eel also known as the Pelican gulper or umbrella-mouth gulper?

Being fascinated with the look of the pelican eel, a little further research yielded that yes, something so unusual about this eel is that its mouth is much bigger than its actual body yet it has tiny teeth! The pelican eel can actually swallow a fish way bigger than the eel itself due to the loosely hinged mouth. Another very unique attribute of the pelican eel is that it does not have pelvic fins, swim bladders, or scales. Movement is provided via the whip-like tail where numerous tentacles can be found at the very base of the tail. These tentacles glow pink and gives off occasional bright red flashes.
Learning about the unique features of the Pelican eel makes me in wonder of the creator of all, God!
In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. –Psalm 95:4-5 (NIV)
