GOD IS ALWAYS AT WORK

Despite the winter weather here in the northeast, my husband and I ventured for some fresh air at a local park this past Sunday so he could hike in the woods while I wandered around.  It was definitely chilly, about 16 degrees, but we bundled up and put on our hiking boots to navigate easier through the snow.

It was a state park that has a lake.  The lake was frozen over, and there were a few brave souls ice fishing.  I walked a bit to a little island next to the main lake and walked a bit on one path into the woods along a frozen stream.  It was a beautiful scene, with the snow glistening and the sun peeking out, trying to offer a little warmth to the day.

After a bit, I decided to go to the other side of the lake where I sat back in the fall, when it was warmer, soaking in the lake view.

As I approached this area, I heard running water and was surprised to see a little waterfall that ran under a small bridge. I had a little epiphany as I was looking at the frozen lake and then the waterfall.

I thought how amazing the whole lake was frozen with inches of ice, yet here was a waterfall where the water was flowing so fresh and full of life.  Who would have thought there would be a waterfall when the temperature was below freezing?  Under all the ice, the world in the lake was still active and alive even though it was not visible.

It made me think how God is always at work in our lives, even in the background.  Yes, He makes everything work together in our lives.  We may not “see” or feel Him but He is still present.  Whatever we are walking through, whether like being in the desert, the dark night of winter, or the sunny days of springtime, God is busy working in every aspect of our lives.

But Jesus replied, “My Father is always working, and so am I.”  —John 5:17  (NLT)

This verse shows Jesus’ great compassion for healing people on the Sabbath.  Jesus shares how the law of love is greater than the law of Moses.  No matter the day or hour, God never stops working in our lives.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.  —Romans 8:28  (NIV)

When our human eyes see only despair, we can have confidence that God is working everything out for our good if we stay grounded in Him.  He is our sovereign Lord.

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.  —Philippians 1:6  (NLT)

God began a good work in us when we came to salvation in Christ. How wonderful to know that He is faithful to continue this work in us until Jesus comes again to fulfill His Kingdom here on earth and in heaven.

Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.  —Psalm 121:4  (NLT)

What great comfort we have, knowing that God never sleeps.  He never misses anything that happens in our lives.

My encouragement for you this week is to take some quiet reflection time with God.
~Try to pinpoint ways you see how He is present and truly working in every aspect of your life.
~Can you see how God is working in your life, even in the most difficult of circumstances?  He is, my dear reader!
God is always working in, through you, and on your behalf.  He loves you with the greatest of love and wants the very best for you~

A sign of God’s great love for us all found on my path that day~

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.  –Philippians 2:13  (NLT)

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.  –Psalm 23:4  (NLT)

  2. When I lived in R.I. as a kid we were always outside in the winter. As I got older and married, we moved to Maine. The winters were not as much fun as they were in my early years. It was more of a chore than fun. But I do remember the beauty of the ice and snow glistening onto the bare tree branches. The sun reflecting the beauty of Gods holiness. If we just stop to look and remember Who created all that is beautiful. We need to reflect on Him.

    1. Thank you for sharing those memories and great truth, Bruce! You are right that it is so important to stop to look and remember Who created this beautiful world for us to enjoy! God’s great gift to us. Blessings and prayers for you and your family. 🙂
